SHILLONG: The state Congress party on Wednesday observed Black Flag day against demonetisation at the premises of Congress Bhavan with state Congress spokesperson and Deputy Chief Minister RC Laloo hrping on the `economic disturbances’ post-demonetisation.

Sound of protests resonated from the premises of Congress Bhavan with slogans like “Narendra Modi Hai hai,” “Sonia Gandhi, zindabad,” etc. Congress functionaries carried placards which read, “Not a surgical strike but carpet bombing of common people,” “All the pain, no real gain.”

“What happen to the disturbances last year? Is it necessary to have demonetisation?” he said, adding that the people were thrown in a frenzy and badly affected the people.

Laloo pointed out that there was neither ban on gold or real estate. “What black money do tribal people have?” he asked.

Pointing out to the incidents of death reported during the periods of demonetisation when people had to stand in queues to exchange money etc., the state Congress party will organise a candlelight vigil at Khyndai Lad, Shillong in the evening to extend solidarity to the lives lost during this period.
