GUWAHATI: “Dr Bhupen Hazarika is not only a name but a great institution. Dr Hazarika’s contribution to Assam’s literature, culture, art and music is remarkable which has introduced state’s art and culture to the world. His evergreen musical creations would always keep inspiring people of the state.” Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said on Thursday while speaking at the programme organised by Sankardev Kristi Bikash Kendra in association with Cultural Affairs Ministry of Government of India for inaugurating a museum for preserving the memorabilia of Dr Hazarika at its premises at Hojai on the occasion of ‘Samanwoy Divas 2017’ organised synchronising with the 6th death anniversary of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika.
Urging the people to follow the ideals of Dr. Hazarika who always worked for uniting all sections of society through his creations where cultures of all communities of the state got reflected, Sonowal said that people must strive for defeating the evil designs of the forces trying to disturb the social harmony of the state. Calling for unity and brotherhood among the people, Sonowal said that only through harmony and not through conflict the state can be developed.
Saying that Dr Hazarika championed the cause of humanity and universal brotherhood in all his creations, Sonowal said that responding to the clarion call made by Jyotiprasad Aggarwala through his song “Biswa Bijoy Najowan” the young generation of the state must broaden the horizon of their knowledge to establish the state at the world stage.
Saying that the relentless campaign against corruption would continue in the state to ensure right utilization of public money, Sonowal said that the state government is committed to equal development of all sections of the society and a society envisioned by Dr Hazarika based on harmony and equality would be achieved with active cooperation from the people.
The chief minister also announced in the meeting that a100-bed hospital would be set up at Sankardev Nagar for rendering quality health services in the area and foundation stone for the hospital would be laid in December this year.
The chief minister also presented ‘Dekagiri Award 2017’ to renowned exponent of Satriya culture Ismail Hussain and released a book titled ‘Biswabandhu’ published by Sankardev Kristi Bikash Kendra in memory of Dr Bhupen Hazarika.
