SHILLONG: The State Cabinet on Friday amended its earlier order of not allowing liquor shops within 500 meters of national highways and reduced the minimum distance to zero.
However, Minister in charge of Excise Zenith Sangma said the liquor shops should not be visible from national or state highways.
The Cabinet also selected no-liquor zones where selling of alcohol will be prohibited. Initially, the government had identified nine such zones in Shillong and seven in Tura.
