Illegal liquor seized at Umroi Bypass

NONGPOH: Illegal liquor, both locally made and IMFL, was recovered from two places in Bhoirymbong during a joint inspection by a local women’s body and the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) in the last two days.
On Saturday, as many as 300 litres of local liquor, 230 bottles of IMFL and 32 bottles of beer were seized from a secluded place near Umroi Bypass. Members of the Lumdaitkhla Bhoirymbong and HYC, however, could not ascertain the person or group who owned the stock.
On Sunday morning, 10 litres of local liquor and 23 bottles of illegal liquor were seized during another inspection at a shop owned by Unstation Trang, a resident of Bhoirymbong near Umroi Bypass.
An FIR has been lodged at Umiam police station.
With the elections round the corner, the women’s body is keeping a strict vigil on illegal liquor business.
