TURA: Downplaying claims of ‘dissent’ within the National People’s Party in Kharkutta constituency of North Garo Hills, a group of party leaders have disowned recent statements of its supporters drifting away to regional parties over allocation of party ticket for next year’s assembly elections.
NPP leader Balin Sangma of Ganggasa village and nine other members of the party have clarified that reports of disgruntlement and switching sides are not true as the party workers await the announcement of their candidate.
“We are active and senior members of the NPP in our area and recent statements of defection by some members to other parties is not at all true. Even the statement that supporters of Rupert joining UDP-GNC during a rally are incorrect,” alleged Balin Sangma and blamed the NPP block secretary for Kharkutta, Parlingstone Sangma, for creating confusion to puzzle the high command.
“It was misinformation given by the block secretary to gain political mileage for some people since Kharkutta has become the stronghold of the NPP,” claimed the village elders.
Meanwhile, Tura Lok Sabha MP and NPP national president Conrad K Sangma while speaking to The Shillong Times said that reports about his party leaders defecting to the UDP-GNC alliance was ‘totally incorrect’.
“Rupert Momin is very much with the NPP and so also are his supporters. Soon the tickets will be allotted to the party candidates in different constituencies,” said Conrad Sangma.
