TURA: Lok Sabha MP and NPP national president Conrad K Sangma has denied reports that his party leaders and members in North Garo Hills are defecting to the UDP-GNC alliance.
“It is totally incorrect. Rupert Momin is very much with the NPP and so also are his supporters. Soon, ticket will be allotted to the party candidates in different constituencies,” Sangma told The Shillong Times.
NPP-Kharkutta secretary Parlingstone Sangma had said recently that a few supporters of Rupert have joined the alliance.
A group of leaders from NPP-Kharkutta on Tuesday denied that supporters were drifting away to regional parties over allocation of tickets.
NPP leader Balin Sangma of Ganggasa village and nine other members of the party clarified that reports of disgruntlement and defection are not true and blamed Parlingstone for creating confusion.
“We are the active and senior members of NPP in our area and the recent statements of defection by some members to other parties are not true. Even the statement that supporters of Rupert (Momin) has joined UDP-GNC during a rally is incorrect,” said Balin.
“It was misinformation by the block secretary who wants to gain political mileage for some people since Kharkutta has become the stronghold of NPP,” said village elders.
