SHILLONG: A youth from the state was allegedly duped of Rs 18 lakh in the pretext of aviation job in Philippines.
Pynshaitbor Bareh lodged a complaint that on completion of his schooling from All India Institute of Aeronautics in Dehradun, on January 2014, his instructor identified as Capt. Saurav Shahi informed that he was employed in Sky World Aviation Services (SWAS) in the Philippines and invited him to continue his Pilot Training Course in the Academy and also advised him to avail Education Loan. The family of the complainant availed loan of Rs 18 lakh from Meghalaya Rural Bank, Rymbai Branch and the same was transferred to the Sky World Group Aviation Bank of Philippines.
On December 2014, Bareh left for the Philippines, however, on reaching there he was taken to Aero Equipt Aviation Inc. and on being convinced by Capt. Shahi, he joined the training. Later, when Bareh’s training was stopped due to tuition fees issues, the complainant went to the Civil Aviation Authority of Philippines (CAAP) to enquire about the Academy, where he was told that SWAS was not fully authorised to conduct Pilot Flight Training and the members of the company, who represented themselves as Pilots, have no valid licences. The company was also not registered.
As a result, the complainant failed to complete the training as per schedule.
