Mukul Sangma launches Livestock Mission in Chokpot

TURA: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma on Saturday, launched the Chief Minister’s Livestock Mission and simultaneously laid the foundation for Multi Facility Centre at Warima in Chokpot Civil Sub-Division.

The programme was also attended by local MLA and Chairman of the Meghalaya State Development Reforms Commission, Bluebell R Sangma, Deputy Commissioner in-charge of South Garo Hills, Ashish M Sangma, Chokpot Civil SDO, Z J Sangma, district officials, local leaders and other dignitaries.

Speaking on the occasion, Sangma said that with a view to bring more developmental schemes, this year the government had sanctioned Rs 1400 crores under MGNREGS. In order to increase the earning of the people, he said funds were sanctioned for the region under the Chief Minister’s Piggery and Livestock Mission. He also informed the gathering that he had increased the number of beneficiaries from around 500 to 2000 households under Chokpot Sub-Division.

The Chief Minister urged the people to restrain from anti-element activities like threatening, extortion, etc. and sought their cooperation in implementing developmental schemes in the region. The Chief Minister also promised to set up a Community College in the Sub-Division and asked the local leaders to identify the site for the purpose.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner in-charge of South Garo Hills, Ashish M Sangma informed the gathering that the sanction had been accorded for 1007 piggery sheds in this financial year.

The Chief Minister also distributed cheques for the beneficiaries under the Chief Minister’s Livestock Mission.
