SHILLONG: An RTI query filed on August 2017 revealed that Laban MDC, Ricky Shullai, has allegedly been holding the post of peon in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly even after he won the MDC bye-election on December last year.

This was as per an RTI filed by CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing and brought to the fore by Victorian Marbaniang and Disiona Passah who are residents of Shillong South constituency.

Ricky is the nephew of local MLA and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) legislator, Sanbor Shullai.

Marbaniang told reporters on Monday that there were many unemployed youths in Raid Laban and expressed surprise that five members of Sanbor’s family were employed in different posts at the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.

As per the information provided by the Public Information Officer (PIO), Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, the women pointed out from the RTI that three children of Sanbor and two nephews were appointed in different temporary posts.

These include Ricky who holds the post of peon, Evangeline Rabon as reviser, M. Rabon, as junior watch and ward, Venessa Rabon as PA to Deputy Speaker, Wansalan Shullau as assistant Librarian.

Asked whether, they have put up an advertisement, Passah said, “If there was such an advertisement, then wouldn’t our children also apply for the same?”

The women came up with the RTI query after they were annoyed with Sanbor when he claimed that they were beneficiaries of scheme which is meant for poor people like the distribution of bags, dinner sets etc.

Marbaniang and Passah sought clarity on the allegations made by the MLA Shullai and even went on to allege that he was trying to fool the people of the constituency.

Alleging that he is wasting money, Passah said, “There are statues everywhere… it is wastage of money. Constructing a statue is an expensive matter. Instead of erecting statues, he should donate the money or rice to the poor people in the constituency.”
