MAWKYRWAT: The leaders and supporters of the United Democratic Party (UDP) Mawkyrwat circle have protested against the appointment of ad hoc president and secretary.
The party said it is a “dictatorial decision” by the leaders of South West Khasi Hills who did not consultant the circle members before announcing the names.
The office bearers, leaders and supporters held a meeting in Mawkyrwat on Saturday to discuss about the situation of the party. The previous ad hoc president, Tyngshain Kharlyngdoh, and secretary Bateibok Marbanniang were removed recently.
The new ad hoc president and secretary are Hapbok Lyngkhoi and Synshar Lyngkhoi, respectively.
The Mawkyrwat party workers claimed that Kharlyngdoh and Marbaniang took the job seriously and they had worked hard to strengthen the party after MDC Hadrian Lyngdoh and Renikton L Tongkhar quit.
“On the contrary, Hapbok and Synshar were not responsible for the party and almost all the units did not recognise them because they were not working for the party. Therefore, we will not accept their appointments and if the party at the higher level cannot accept that, then it is better to dissolve the party in Mawkyrwat,” the members said.
They also warned that the dictatorial attitude of the president of UDP South West Khasi Hills, GG Bung Snaitang, will affect the party not only in Mawkyrwat but also in Ranikor.
