SHILLONG: A section of book sellers has raised concerns over why the government did not wait for National Curriculum Framework, which will be out in December, before selection of textbooks for schools affiliated to the Meghalaya Board of Secondary Education.
Some publishers also pointed out that the book sellers are having a lot of old stocks and they were not given an opportunity to clear them.
Recently, teachers’ associations in the state appreciated MBoSE’s choice of textbooks even as the move created controversy after allegations of favouritism.
Another alleged anomaly cited by the publishers is that it is not possible to review more than 2,200 textbooks within a month before finalising the textbooks. They added that Headword Publishers and Turtle Books, Nodia, are new companies with just two years of experience in the field.
According to some publishers, two years ago, the Directorate of Educational Research and Training was asked to examine, evaluate and recommend the textbooks to MBoSE unlike the present.
