SHILLONG: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has defended its decision to accommodate leaders from other parties while remaining firm on not taking in any non performer MLA from other parties.
Speaking to media persons here on Friday, Union Tourism Minister and BJP leader, KJ Alphons said in politics, parties could not get complete new faces and they needed people with experience.
“We cannot have college students running the party and we need to mix up young and old,” he said. The BJP leader was here in Shillong to oversee the party’s poll preparedness besides meeting some religious leaders.
Responding to queries, Alphonse said that the party would have a meeting in Shillong from December 8-10 in which party’s National General Secretary, Ram Madhav would also participate.
“In the meeting, we will take few decisions about candidates and announcement of candidates,” he told reporters. Maintaining that leaders from different political parties would definitely join the BJP, Alphons said that leaders from different political parties are expected to join the party after the announcement of the elections. “We are not in hurry to get people into our fold,” he said.
Refusing to admit that the party is finding it difficult in getting popular faces, he said that the party would turn tables overnight
Continuing his attack on the Congress-led government in the state, he said that the State Government was cheating the people and was one of the most corrupt governments in the country.
Denying the allegations that BJP is a political wing of the RSS, he said that the plan of the BJP was to contest all the 60 seats in Meghalaya in the upcoming elections.
