SHILLONG: The National People’s Party is jubilant over the resignation of Power Minister Comingone Ymbon from the MUA-II Cabinet and is now all set to join the NPP.
NPP national president, Conrad Sangma while speaking to The Shillong Times on Monday, said that the leaders deserting the Congress party one after another only shows the internal dissension in the Congress and a leadership crisis, adding that the confidence level of the Congress has certainly dropped which is reflected from the decision of senior leaders not to contest the upcoming elections.
“We are happy as we are getting positive responses and we have ideas to address the poor governance in the state and bring change where needed,” he said.
Sangma however said that there are some technical processes which have to be followed before the leaders officially join the NPP.
Responding to queries, Sangma said that they are organising the party in the state and they are planning to contest as many seats as possible adding that they might even contest all the 60 seats.
He however said that it will be too early for the NPP to predict the number of seats it can secure for itself.
Sangma also expressed hope that more and more people would join the party as NPP is the best option in the state.
Speculations were rife that Ymbon might join National People’s  Party (NPP) along with a number of other Congress legislators.
The other Congress MLAs expected to join the NPP are Sniawbhalang Dhar from Nartiang, Pynursla MLA Prestone Tynsong, Umroi MLA Ngaitlang Dhar and veteran leader from Mawkyrwat Rowell Lyngdoh.
