Tura student dies due to assault in Punjab

TURA: A young student of Tura who was pursuing his higher studies in Punjab has been killed due to allegedly assault on him by his neighbours following a brawl over birthday celebrations in his house.
The 21-year-old boy from Tura’s Nakham Bazar, Ashish Prasad had passed out from the prestigious Sherwood School Tura with distinction in the high school leaving examination in 2012 conducted by Meghalaya Board of Secondary Education (MBoSE).
He was pursuing his mechanical engineering at Lovely Professional University at Phagwara Punjab.
On Thursday, Ashish was celebrating his friend Rishabh’s birthday at his rented house along with his university course mates in Adarshnagar locality when a fight reportedly broke out with the neighbours who objected to the celebration began pelting stones and later attacked Ashish and his friends with lethal weapons leaving him and another student grievously wounded with head injuries.
He was rushed to the government hospital at Phagwara but passed away on Friday morning due to excess loss of blood.
His death has sent shockwaves among the student community pursuing their higher education in Punjab and other parts of northern region.
A case has been registered and police have begun investigation.
