SHILLONG: The Intelligence Bureau (IB) Director, Rajiv Jain, on Saturday said that the North Eastern region which witnessed lots of disturbances in the past, had remained relatively peaceful in the last few years.
Addressing the passing out parade of the 43rd basic course of North Eastern Police Academy (NEPA) in Umiam, around 20 kilometers from Shillong, Rajiv Jain said it was the responsibility of the new trainee police officers to ensure that peace in the region was sustained and people’s belief and trust in peace continues as that was where the key to the development of the region lied.
“In view of the Union Government’s Act East Policy, the region is at the threshold of a massive transformation and you have to play an enabling role,” he said while lauding the facilities and faculty at the police academy.
He also urged the new trainee officers to be disciplined in every sphere of life including character and conduct while calling them to stay firm while implementing law.
Earlier, 35 trainee police officers who underwent the 43rd Basic Course, took oath during the `dikshant’ parade. The 35 trainees include three lady officers in the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (14), Inspectors (9), Sub-Inspectors (8) and Jemadar (4).
Altogether 25 of them were from Nagaland, six from Manipur, two from Mizoram, and one each from Arunachal Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.
