SHILLONG: Lawanpynshngain War, the National People’s Party (NPP) candidate from Mairang assembly seat and the son of former MLA late Kitdor Syiem, said he joined the politics as he wanted to bring about changes in the constituency.
War said he wants to serve the people of the constituency following his father’s footsteps. He pointed out that Mairang’s electorates are wise enough to elect a representative who will bring about development in Mairang which was not done by the sitting MLA.
He added, “Governance is two-way street wherein the representative has to work along with the public and vice versa.” Asked why he joined NPP, War said that he had confidence in the party although it was still a young one led by president, Conrad Sangma and maintained that NPP would form the next government in the state.
“The people of the state are yearning to see an NPP government to bring about changes to usher in development in the state,” War said. He expressed concern at the lack of visibility of growth in certain vital sectors like education and tourism despite the fact that they could catalyse the development of the state.
