SHILLONG: Union Tourism Minister KJ Alphons on Saturday criticised Chief Minister Mukul Sangma for the plight of people in Meghalaya.
Taking part in the rally organised by BJP at Polo Grounds on Saturday, Alphons narrated the hardships of the people of the state in presence of the Prime Minister.
He said there are no roads in several parts of Meghalaya and the youths do not have jobs. “I was with a few priests and they told me that it takes three and a half hours to travel from Nongstoin to Maweit and the distance is only 35 km,” Alphons said.
According to the Minister, to travel a distance of 48 km from Shillong to Syntung, it takes 2 hours 45 minutes due to poor road condition.
“Where are you Mr Chief Minister? The Centre has given you crores of rupees but where are the roads,” Alphons asked.
He also wanted to know whether the chief minister had provided employment to any single person in the state.
Alphons said that while the Centre had given 7th pay commission award to the employees, there are many who were deprived of the state government’s fifth pay commission recommendations.
On the party’s secularity, the minister said he and his wife were devout Catholics and he was inducted into the Cabinet by the Prime Minister though he was not a member of Parliament. “The government is for everybody,” he added.
Earlier, Assam Minister and BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma said after Assam, BJP will form governments in Tripura, Meghalaya and other northeastern states.
