High-level meet reviews security in greater Guwahati

GUWAHATI: A high-level security review meeting held here on Sunday reviewed the security measures and law and order situation in the state capital area in view of the approaching Republic Day and International Business Summit scheduled to be held in the city in February next year.

The meeting also took note of rising incidents of car theft nd crime against women in the city of late and formulated strategy to facilitate safe celebrations on December 31 and the New Year in the city, according to ADGP (Law and Order) Kuladhar Saikia.

Meanwhile, Assam Police have geared coordination with Arunachal Pradesh police to check inter-state movement of ULFA(I) militants who have geared up activities in area close to Arunachal boundary in eastern Assam. The militants take shelter in South Arunachal districts bordering Myanmar and carry out hit and run operations inside Assam in bordering areas. They have also mounted extortion drive in the bordering areas of late.
