NONGSTOIN: Election fever has caught up the people of Nongstoin with the first public meeting held at Nongstoin market which was organised by the coordination committee of Hills State People Democratic Party (HSPDP) and the United Democratic Party (UDP) on Tuesday.
Addressing the public, HSPDP central body president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit predicted that Nongstoin MLA D. Jyndiang would win the next election again while lauding his effort in developing the area.
He said the HSPDP is getting stronger with every passing day and from one election to another. ‘However, we find it difficult to contest alone in this upcoming Assembly election. If we do so, the Congress will return to power in 2018. Hence, the party has decided to work together with UDP to ensure that the two oldest regional parties form the Government in 2018,” Basaiawmoit said, adding that parties like NPP and PDF are nothing but a shadow of BJP who will do whatever it takes to bring down the coalition.
He urged the people of Nongstoin not to get influenced by the “false promises” made by various parties to attract voters, but act according to their own judgementHe also slammed KHADC CEM, P N Syiem who has joined PDF for not implementing any law to protect the rights of the indigenous people for the last 10 years as an MDC and MLA.
Jyndiang said that his two years’ term after winning the by-poll following the death of H.S Lyngdoh, was too short. However, he said that he did his best to serve the people of the constituency. “Though I tried to raise issues of development of Nongstoin in the Legislative Assembly, the government led by Mukul Sangma turned a deaf ear to it,” he said.
Regretting that he was not able to translate the dreams of the people of Nongstoin into a reality due to apathy by the current government, Jyndiang said if the people gave him another chance, he will certainly leave no stone unturned for the overall development of the constituency.
