Shillong traders still expect Christmas shopping to pick up

SHILLONG: Christmas is just few days away and so commercial business in the city has gone up as shopping establishments in the city are filled with   shoppers.

The staff of the   RB Store, the departmental store in the city   said that   the sale this time was average     even as he added that there was good demand for Black Forest and Chocolate Cakes.

J mordani, the owner of the In Fashion, a garments dealer in the town, said that initially, there were hiccups but the sale had picked up in the last 3-4 days.

Admitting that GST is a hindrance, he, however, added that the sale this year was better than last year and there was not much chance for further improvement of sale in the last two days.

On the other hand, the tourists flow into the city is said to be slightly less than usual during the festive season when hotels in the town remain packed

Vikash Gupta, owner of Hotel Assembly said that the tourist flow was good but less than the last year.

“This tourist rush will be there only till New year,” he said.

A young girl, J Jyrwa, working with a reputed chain of beauty products also said that the sell was fine this year

On the other hand, a hawker who did not wished to be identified, rued that the sale was pretty bad this year.

“The sales are horrible this year and we hope it will rise in the next two days,” he said.
