SHILLONG: Central observer of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Rakesh Sinha, launched a scathing attack on the BJP for resorting to money power to win polls in Meghalaya. He stated that the BJP had no base in the state even though some of the legislators might have joined the saffron party.
Sinha flayed the BJP for showing its money power by putting up its banners and posters, asserting that the party was covering its failures through hoardings and banners.
He said, “They can paint entire Shillong and Meghalaya with their posters but they will not be able to influence the voters of Meghalaya. It is trying to influence the people of Meghalaya by its might.”
He contended that BJP should answer the question posed by the voters of Meghalaya who want a reply on what the BJP-led government at the Centre has done in these 3 ½ years to the state.
Sinha went on to add that the crores of Rupees of money spent by Prime Minister Narendra Modi or the money he spent to put up posters and banners in the state, did not get transferred to votes.
Commenting on the ruling Congress party in the state, Sinha asserted that he did not see any chance for the Congress to retain power in the state.
He observed that the elections was an opportunity for the state to pave the way for a new system represented by the AAP as he puts it as, “It is good news for Meghalaya if AAP plans to contest the elections.”
BJP caters to selected people
Sinha, who is also the chief advisor to the Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal alleged that business houses – the Ambanis and Adanis are behind BJP’s money power.
“BJP is pro-industrialist party, pro-corporate party, pro-Adani party, pro-Ambani party. It believes in catering to the selected people who are already in the rich group. It has nothing to do with marginalized people. It does social, political and other manipulative engineering to get votes,” he said.
He went on to accuse the BJP of breaking the deprived sections into different groups and small caste, creed to get votes.
Pointing out that AAP is pro-people party, he said that the party did not believe in giving false promises and slogans where “every account will have Rs 15 lakhs and there will be 2 crore jobs.”
Sinha commented that the country had suffered in the hands of the BJP whereas he indicated that the aim of the AAP was to provide basic facilities and unalienable rights to the people.
“It is not about vikas (development). Development is vague. It has to be seen on the ground and it has to be measurable, quantifiable and tangible. Development in what way?” the advisor to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said.
Dismissing the much-hyped bullet train in Gujarat, the home state of PM Modi, as eyewash, Sinha said that the bullet train hardly represented development.
