Nongpoh: Ri Bhoi district Congress Committee, block committees of the five constituencies of the district as well as the youth and Mahila Wing felicitated Celestine Lyngdoh on being elected as the new president of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) upon his arrival at Byrnihat on Thursday.
AICC chief Rahul Gandhi appointed Lyngdoh as the new chief of MPCC on December 30 replacing veteran leader and former chief minister DD Lapang.
Both Lapang and Lyngdoh are from Ri Bhoi and so the RBDCC and other committees of the party from different constituencies expressed their joy that leaders from the district were and still are leading the party and the state.
At the short felicitation programme, Lyngdoh was presented bouquets and traditional mufflers.
“It is an honour and a proud moment for the people of Ri Bhoi that once again a leader from the district has been appointed the MPCC chief,” said Delness Pale, Congress leader from Umsning and chairman of the felicitation programme.
With the objective of strengthening the party ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, Celestine Lyngdoh has called upon party workers and supporters to work together so that Congress comes back to power once more and gets the opportunity to fulfil the many pending development projects and aspirations of the people of the state.
