SHILLONG: Four candidates of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and a district youth president resigned because “the party could not meet their monetary demands”.
In a statement to the media, LJP said those who quit were demanding Rs 20-25 lakh.
“It is well known that LJP is a party for the poor and does not have funds… we stick to our principles to serve the poor and bring a transparent and clean administration in the state. We reiterate our mission to bring power to the poor,” said LJP state president Jamil Ahmed in the statement.
The four candidates who quit are Tony Marbaniang (North Shillong), a former BJP man, Arelitha K Sangma (Selsella), Banrilang Jungai (Jowai) and Denis Tynsiar (Pynursla). The youth leader is Hadisul Islam.
The party statement said the resignations would not affect LJP’s poll work and supporters were asked not to be influenced by the defectors.
