SHILLONG: All India Mahila Congress President, Sushmita Deb who is the Lok Sabha MP from Silchar in Assam, has slammed Tura MP and NPP President, Conrad Sangma alleging that the NPP is helping saffron Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to make inroads in Meghalaya.
Addressing a meeting of Mahila Congress here on Thursday, Deb said, “If Conrad Sangma plays a role to bring saffron BJP in Meghalaya, it will be a shame to his legacy,” adding “if Conrad Sangma is a true son of Meghalaya, he should fight the saffron party instead of bringing communal forces here.”
Terming NPP as the team B of BJP, she said that voting for NPP would mean voting for BJP even as she referred to the recent election in Manipur where NPP helped BJP to form the Government.
“We must protect Shillong from communal forces and we will throw out a communal party like BJP from the North East,” she said.
Earlier, Deb criticised apart Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and BJP president, Amit Shah saying the BJP president has no answer as to how his son became multi-millionaire in such a short time.
She alleged that the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi along with his army of RSS wanted Meghalaya and other North Eastern states because of the BJP was set lose in many northern states of the country in the 2019 Assembly elections and they wanted to cover up for the loss from North Eastern states.
“I guarantee that they will divide and destroy the peace of Meghalaya,” she said, adding that Modi claims of turning every state he visits into a model state.
Claiming that the it was the Congress which made the Guwahati-Shillong four lane road, Deb continued her attack on BJP and asked people not to give inroad to a saffron and communal party like BJP in Meghalaya
Meanwhile, she also said that the women had an essential role to play in the upcoming Assembly polls and she asked the Mahila Congress workers to visit each and every house and explain to them about the Congress party.
She also said that RSS and Narendra Modi were against woman empowerment and this was the reason they have not implemented 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament.
The meeting was also attended by Shillong MP Vincent Pala, Central leaders and woman workers of the Congress in a jam packed state central library auditorium.
