JOWAI: “Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma is mentally sick; he should be sent to mental jail. He is also the most selfish Chief Minister of the state,” roared Bataw MDC Joinriwel Pyrtuh at a public rally held at Wapungskur in protest against the Shifting of the Wapung C&RD Block Office from Wapungskur to Lumshnong.
The Wapung C&RD Block Office was renamed from Khliehriat Community and Rural Development Block eight months ago and the department with the approval of the Governor has shifted the same from EJH District Headquarters to Wapungskur.
Two villages, Wapungskur and Wapungshnong ha, donated the land measuring more than 5 acres free of cost and the office building was under construction.
“The construction was done through a scheme under MNREGA as per the directive of the Directorate and the Mukul government,” informed Justine Dkhar, adding that he and the local MDC have offered financial assistance to expedite the construction of the office building.
The public meeting was attended by more than 2000 villagers from different villages under the Wapung C&RD Block along with their respective headmen.
The headmen who spoke in the public meeting strongly condemned Mukul. “We pray that he loses from both the constituencies he will contest in the coming election,” said ex- Congress MDC Helping Phawa.
Ex MLA Justine Dkhar informed the gathering that he had worked hard to shift the Block Office from Khliehriat to Wapung but due to Mukul’s election propaganda, the same was shifted to Lumshnong without following any procedure.
“It takes us more than three years to furnish all requirements for shifting the Block Office to Wapung.
”It’s really shocking to the people of the area and to me as the local MLA as I could not believe that Sangma will behave in such a way just for his political interest,” Pyrtuh said.
”I had supported the Congress after I got elected but due to his dictatorial policy I left the Congress to join NPP,” Pyrtuh said.
The meeting was chaired by the President of the AJYWO and all speakers, mostly headmen of the area, strongly condemned the decision taken by Mukul’s government.
The villagers came to the rally with black flags and placards.
