Polio immunisation in EGH begins on January 29
WILLIAMNAGAR: The first round of the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation in East Garo Hills for 2017-2018 will kick-start from January 29. The district medical and health officer, Dr JK Marak, held a meeting with Deputy Commissioner Ram Kumar on Thursday. Marak apprised Kumar of cases where some parents have refused immunisation of their children in some areas of Dagal, Rongjeng, Songsak, Mangsang and other areas. The DC suggested that the DM&HO should involve villagers through headmen, sordars and BDOs. The second round of the immunisation will start from March 26.
Sec 144 in EGH after poll date announcement
WILLIAMNAGAR: East Garo Hills District Magistrate Ramkumar S has promulgated Section 144 with effect from January 18 following the announcement of the poll date. There is prohibition on the movement or gathering of five or more persons within the district during the time of election with an intention to disrupt the peace and tranquility and carry out activity that may disrupt the conduct of free and fair election. Use of loudspeakers before 6 am and after 10 pm without prior permission of the authority concerned will not be allowed. The order further prohibits the offering of inducement to voters, appealing the caste or communal feelings of electors, using of places of worship for election propaganda, writing on the walls, pasting of posters or papers, defacement, erecting or displaying of cut-outs, hoardings, banners and flags on any government premises, displaying of flags and banners on private premises except with the voluntary written permission of the occupants or owners, displaying of flags or stickers on private and commercial vehicles unless such vehicle is used for election campaign after obtaining requisite permission from the district election officer or the returning officer which has to be displayed on the wind screen.
House panel visits BSF Hospital
SHILLONG: The Standing Committee of Parliament on Health and Family Welfare, headed by MP Manoj Rajoria, visited the Composite Hospital BSF Shillong on Saturday. He interacted with the patients there and asked if they were facing any problems. Rajoria also made rounds of all the installations at the hospital and praised its maintenance. The members of the committee also held a meeting briefed by Dr A C Bhardwajan, DIG (Med)/MS about the activities of the BSF medical team serving the border population. Emphasis was laid on the new initiative of disease centric screening camps at different border locations. Rajoria also interacted with P K Dubey, Inspector General of BSF Meghalaya Frontier.
Students feted for clearing UGC NET
NONGSTOIN: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya on Saturday felicitated 13 students who cleared the UGC NET examinations. The students were honoured by Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque. The students were felicitated with a gamocha, a bouquet, a memento as well as cash amounting to the fees they paid to the university.
