SHILLONG: People’s Democratic Front (PDF) candidate from Pynthorumkhrah constituency, James Ban Basaiawmoit urged the state Congress to support him in the upcoming Assembly elections instead of asking him to contest from the Congress.
Admitting that Congress did approach him for the party ticket, he told reporters that the Congress should instead support him if it does not want BJP to win the elections.
Basaiawmoit said, “I cannot switch to any other political party and I am committed to PDF. I requested the Congress leaders to support the PDF and for the electorate to not waste their vote.”
He added that his supporters have decided to stick with him in PDF.
Though BJP has not declared its candidates, yet former Pynthorumkhrah MLA AL Hek is a BJP ticket aspirant.
It may be mentioned that the Congress is yet to declare candidates for three constituencies which includes Pynthorumkhrah, South Shillong constituency and Khliehriat constituency.
