SHILLONG:  State BJP has asked the AICC president, Rahul Gandhi to apologise before the people of Meghalaya for his comments that the Bharatiya Janata Party was offering money to churches in Meghalaya  and trying to buy the people of the state.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, BJP State president, Shibun Lyngdoh said, “ We don’t believe in buying and selling of votes.”

Accusing the Congress-led Government of Meghalaya of doing nothing except laying foundation stones repeatedly, he pointed that the Government in 2012, before 2013 Assembly polls, had laid the foundation stone for the proposed Medical College. Again it has been repeated with the Government laying foundation for the same medical college recently

Shibun further clarified that   the Central Government had allotted schemes to churches in Meghalaya    under the Swadesh Darshan scheme to make many religious places attractive to people.

He also said that Churches in Meghalaya were not involved in politics and they had their own work.
