SHILLONG: Senior BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy said on Sunday that Meghalaya has nothing to be proud of except the roads which are given by the Centre.
Talking to reporters after a meeting of karyakartas (BJP members) of North Shillong in Hotel Grace during his maiden visit to the state on Sunday, the Lok Sabha MP from Bihar blamed the UPA for the lack of development in the northeastern state.
“Yeh durbhagya hai ki jab yaha (Congress) sarkar thi aur desh mein bhi UPA ki sarkar thi, jo vikaas ka gaddi tha wo lagbhag shunya ki barabar tha (It was unfortunate that despite a Congress government in Meghalaya during the time when UPA was in power at the Centre, development was negligible),” he said.”Aaj Meghalaya ke paas ek mauka hai Delhi ke saath kadam se kadam milake chale (Today, Meghalaya is getting an opportunity to work together with Delhi),” he added as he stressed the BJP’s vision of bringing about change.
Ruling out any post-poll alliance, Rudy said the BJP will fight the Meghalaya Assembly polls alone and form the government on its own.
“There is no alliance of BJP. BJP is fighting on its own and it will form a government on its own strength,” the BJP leader said.
His remark comes two days after NPP chief Conrad Sangma ruled out post-poll alliance with BJP, which has fielded candidates in 47 constituencies, or any party.
‘Magic man Shah’
Earlier during the karyakarta meeting, Rudy called BJP national president Amit Shah as a man with magic saying the party formed government in states where Shah set his foot.
In this connection, he called upon the BJP members to convince people to vote for the party to ensure electoral success for JA Lyngdoh, who was also present at in the meeting.
Exuding confidence about the party’s performance in the state, he said Meghalaya will get a BJP chief minister for the first time. “People are looking for change which has motivated the BJP karyakartas from making it (formation of BJP government) successful,” he added.
Speaking about the Congress, Rudy said the party lacked issues to talk on and hence it was tarnishing BJP’s image with communal colour.
“From the voices of the people here in the state, it seems that there is a BJP wave,” he said, adding that people in the state would give a fitting reply to the Congress in the February 27 polls.
Others present in the meeting BJP candidate from Pynthorumkhrah AL Hek and BJP national spokesperson Nalin Kohli.
