TURA: West Garo Hills District Election Officer, Ram Singh has informed that in case of any grievances regarding cash seizure or other items, redressal has to be made to the Committee comprising of himself (District Election Officer), Nodal Officer, Swapnil Tembe, IAS, Election Expenditure Monitoring Cell and District Treasury Officer (DTO) D K Newar.
Informing that the notification was in pursuance of the guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India, the DEO added that the Committee shall suo moto examine each cash seized if found that it is not linked to any candidate, political party or any election campaign and due steps shall be taken to release the seized cash only after following the standard operating procedures.
He further said that seized cash will not be kept for more than seven days after the date of the poll unless any FIR or complaint is lodged in this regard. However, if the seized money exceeds more than 10 (ten) lakhs, the Nodal Officer of Income Tax shall be informed before releasing it, he added.
