TURA: Condolences and condemnations continued to pour in on Tuesday against the dastardly killing of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidate from Williamnagar, Jonathone N Sangma by the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) militants late on Sunday evening.

Sangma was returning from one of his campaigns when GNLA militants triggered an IED blast killing him along with three others while several others received critical injuries.

Hawakhana Baptist Church Pastor, Rev Frithing D Sangma termed the act as that committed by those ‘lacking normal human nature’ and urged one and all to denounce it.

“I, on behalf of Conglomeration of Churches, NGOs and Senior Citizen Peace Committee, Tura, appeal to all the Churches and citizen in Garo Hills to uphold in prayer the bereaved families and also pray that such evil crimes will not overshadow our society. I will also appeal to the State Law and Order Authority to take strong action against the culprits who have committed such a heinous crime,” the statement issued by the Church leader read.

The All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) also strongly condemned the incident and urged the government to take strong action against the perpetrators of the crime.
