TURA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is coming on his maiden visit to Garo Hills on Thursday to address an election rally at Shyamnagar playground in Phulbari. He is scheduled to address the rally at 2 O’clock in the afternoon.
It is expected to be one of the biggest events in the region in recent times and Modi bhakts are leaving no stone unturned to ensure its success.
From motorcades wrapped in a mélange of saffron to every single landmark in the non-descript river bank town of Phulbari, on whose side flows the mighty Jinjiram river, it’s almost lotus everywhere.
Coming two days after the Rahul rhetoric in which the Congress chief accused the saffron party of encouraging fragmentation of society and called for a BJP ‘mukt’ Meghalaya, Modi, the natural ‘crowd puller’ is expected to tear all the Congress salvos to shreds while addressing the rally.
“This rally for the prime minister will be the rally of all rallies in the Garo Hills. It will be colossal gathering of people who want to see a change in Meghalaya,” said the BJP’s national spokesman and in-charge of Meghalaya Nalin Kohli from Phulbari where he is overseeing the last-minute preparations for the Thursday rally.
The BJP leader in charge of the state mocked the Congress over its rallies in Mendipather, Garobadha and Tura on Tuesday accusing it of manufacturing crowds to prevent an embarrassment about the low turnout.
“The Congress had to literally herd in crowds for Rahul’s rallies whereas for Modi’s rally people will come on their own freewill. It will be spontaneous because of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s charisma,” said Nalin Kohli.
