SHILLONG/ TURA: The election agent of Deborah C Marak, Congress candidate from Williamnagar, has filed an FIR against a group of persons for issuing statements on Facebook to the effect that the sitting MLA is responsible for the assassination of Jonathone N Sangma.
Helpingstone G Momin, Marak’s election agent, lodged a complaint against Sengbath Ch Marak, Tengse Momin, Brownstrawnman Sangma and others who have created a Facebook page in the name of the late Jonathone Sangma.
Sengbath Ch Marak allegedly commented that Deborah Marak was responsible for Jonathone’s assassination, while Tengse Momin alleged that Deborah and Mukul Sangma offered Rs 80 lakh to GNLA to kill Jonathone.
Brownstrawnman Sangma, on the other hand, alleged that Deborah and Mukul blackmailed the voters. Likewise, another Facebook post, too, alleged that Deborah was responsible for the assassination of the NCP candidate from Williamnagar.
East Garo Hills police informed a case has been registered against the accused and the matter was being probed.
Meanwhile, the family of the Congress minister was shifted out of Garo Hills under armed protection on Wednesday due to a threat perception reportedly intercepted by intelligence agencies.
Intelligence sources told The Shillong Times that a decision to shift the family out of Williamnagar was taken following credible inputs about a threat perception to the minister’s family in the wake of the IED blast that killed NCP candidate Jonathone N Sangma and three others on Sunday night.
Deborah’s son and daughter were rushed off from her residence under armed escort to Shillong.
“I was informed about the threat and advised to take my family away,” said Deborah who remained in her constituency.
Intelligence sources have not revealed which group or outfit has issued the threat even as sleuths began a probe into it.
