TURA: The North Tura division of PWD (Roads) has responded to the complaint that was lodged after a wooden bridge collapsed injuring several people.
The Office of the Executive Engineer said in a clarification issued on Monday that unlike claimed in the FIR, there were signboards at both ends of the bridge cautioning commuters about the weak bridge.
“Cautionary signboards were in place at both ends of the bridge as well as at the start and end of the road clearly stating that the road is closed for vehicular traffic due to reconstruction of RCC bridge. There were also signboards indicating that the bridge is meant for pedestrian movement only,” the clarification said.
The office has also provided photographs of the signboards and notices on risk along with the clarification.
Last week, independent candidate from South Tura Anamika JG Momin had lodged an FIR after passengers travelling in an SUV owned by her sustained injuries when the bridge at A’konggre collapsed on February 26.
The FIR alleged that the mishap occurred due to the negligence of the department as there were no signboards prohibiting vehicles from taking the precarious route. She had sought action against officials concerned.
