SHILLONG: The Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) will hold a meeting next week to discuss the resignation of Ardent Basaiawmoit as the party president.
Speaking to media persons, vice president KP Pangniang said, “The matter pertaining to his resignation will be discussed in the meeting in the coming week when everyone is free. The committee will take decisions.”
Basaiawmoit quit the post on March 6 as he was disappointed with the MLAs who defied him and extended support to the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance.
Pangniang said the support given by the two MLAs, Samlin Malniang and Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, to the alliance government will also be discussed in a meeting though he did not specify when.
“We have to take careful decisions in this matter as well,” he added.
Commenting on the poor performance of the party in the Assembly elections, the HSPDP vice president said, “We will concentrate on the (District) Council election and try to restore the party. The Council election in
2019 is a crucial precedent for the next Assembly elections.”
Only two out of the 13 candidates fielded by HSPDP won in the recently concluded polls.
