Mawsynram MLA calls for skill training for rural youth

SHILLONG: Newly-elected MLA of Mawsynram, HM Shangpliang has   stressed on the need to provide jobs to the youths of the rural areas of the state besides providing them skill development training to cut short the problem of unemployment.

Addressing a programme organsied in Mawsynram to felicitate him on being elected as the new MLA, Shangpliang said that he was going to organise a number of recruitment rallies in the constituency for the unemployed youths even as he added that there were several opportunities under Meghalaya Skill Development Society for youths who were under matriculate, matriculate and even class XII.

The director of the society told that there were several opportunities for youth to be employed as security guards, hospitality sector, call centre and   even general duty assistants.

He said that if the jobs can be provided to youths, they will not be required to search for white collared jobs.

Earlier, Shangpliang   also expressed concern over the poor road connectivity in the constituency saying there are certain areas where people have to walk for 3-4 hours even in today’s age

According to Shangpliang, there are certain villages which are famous for handicraft but surprisingly, these villages had poor road communication

“My priority for the first year will be on roads,” he said.

Meanwhile, the PWD secretary also informed the local MLA that an estimate had been prepared worth Rs 22 for repairing for the Mawphlang –Balat   road   since especially the area   from Trongpleng to Dangar is not fit for vehicles.

Earlier, Shangpliang took out a procession and he was felicitated by different groups and individuals after he won the elections.
