JOWAI: The BSF has donated a plate-making machine to villagers residing in the border areas in East Jaintia Hills.
The machine will help villagers of Umkiang, Lamasaki, Laijuri, Borsara and Kuliang in making plates from areca nut leaves, which are found in abundance in the region, a BSF statement issued on Sunday said. It added that the villagers can earn their livelihood by selling the plates.
“The machine will be kept at Kuliang BOP. We are providing free electricity to operate the machine and if villagers demand it will be shifted to another BOP based on the villagers’ demand,” BSF Deputy Commandant Movie Zingkhai said, adding that the machine was brought from Bangalore.
In another civic action programme in East Khasi Hills, the BSF donated multi-gym set at Patharghat village.
