Man held for raping mentally challenged

NONGSTOIN: A man has been arrested in West Khasi Hills for allegedly raping a mentally challenged woman several times.
An FIR lodged at Nongstoin police station on Saturday stated that Batborlin Syiemlieh raped the woman between March and April last year.
He used to visit her secretly at her residence during the day and took advantage of her medical condition, the FIR stated. Both are from Mawthungkper village in the district.
The victim got pregnant and recently delivered a baby.
According to sources, Syiemlieh had once admitted to the victim’s mother about their relationship. But later he denied.
The victim has been suffering from mental illness for 10 years and has five children, including the newborn.
The accused had also threatened the relatives of the victim.
A case has been registered.
