KSU rally marred by vandalism in Shillong

SHILLONG: The state capital city on Tuesday witnessed acts of vandalism along the arterial GS Road and adjoining areas during a march organised by the KSU on the occasion of their 40th anniversary.

East Khasi Hills SP, D Marak said that only one person was injured with minor injuries after he was hit by a stone in GS Road.

Marak also said that the police at first would have to look if the organisers of the rally was responsible for the vandalism or it was the handiwork of some mischief mongers. Terming the incident as stray, Marak said that no FIR had been filed.

Apart from the injury of a person, window panes of some shops and a Sumo were also damaged during the melee in GS Road.

Meanwhile, the Shillong police had made strong security arrangement outside the State Central Library where the programme was held.

Following the incident, most of the shops in GS Road were closed down and police was seen patrolling in the entire stretch.

This is not the first time where such violent incidents have taken place during a rally organised by the pressure groups in the city.
