NONGSTOIN: Development has eluded Mawlangniang under Nongstoin constituency for a long time as the place has been neglected for the last 45 years. Locals, who had lost all hope of revival, has finally found some assurance from newly elected NPP MLA Macmillan Byrsat.
The Mawlangniang primary unit of NPP, which felicitated Byrsat on Friday, has urged the legislator to improve infrastructure and basic amenities.
Lambor Lyngdoh, the secretary of the primary unit, submitted a memorandum to the MLA asking for blacktopping of the road from Urkali to Mawlangniang, drinking water supply and upgrading the sub centre to primary health centre, among other things.
Rolington Marthong, one of the elders of the village, said for 45 years no representatives have visited the area and it was the first time that an MLA came to the place. “We all know that it’s tough for an MLA to give whatever we demand as most villages in Nongstoin face the same problems but at least he should consider only those who are deserving,” Marthong said.
Expressing gratitude, Byrsat, who is also the chairman of Meghalaya State Law Commission, assured that he would do his best to mitigate the problems of the villagers.
He also expressed happiness over his win and also thanked Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma for appointing him as the chairman of the Meghalaya State Law Commission. “It is a great opportunity for me,” he added. The MLA said he had written to the chief engineer (PWD-Roads) on blacktopping of the road at Nongpyndeng and fund would be sanctioned shortly.
