JH farmers face hurdle due to unavailability of fertilizers
SHILLONG: The unavailability of fertilizers to farmers in Jaintia Hills has affected farming activities even as the sowing season approaches. The Jaintia National Council (JNC) and All Jaiñtia Students Union (AJSU) met with officers from the Agriculture Department to inform them about the matter to which the officers informed them that the fertilizers had been distributed. R.A Dhar, president of the JNC, urged the state government to look into the matter and stated that the government should come up with an agriculture policy for the welfare of the farmers.

Central Ministry team visits NEIGRIHMS
SHILLONG: NEIGRIHMS has been observing Swachhta Pakhwada – a fifteen day cleanliness cum awareness drive – which started on April 1. In line with the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Family welfare, an action plan and various activities were carried out on daily basis. There was cleaning drive on the roof top of the Hospital on April 9 and on Tuesday, a team of external assessors headed by Dr. A. K Bhagga from the Ministry of Health and Family welfare, government of India took stock of the activities being undertaken by NEIGRIHMS. A skit was organised by the Sanitation Department to demonstrate the purpose of segregation of hospital waste. Nursing students also demonstrated the importance of hand hygiene to the hospital staff and visitors.
Best employee awards were also given out in the presence of the Director, NEIGRIHMS. Dean, Deputy Director and Medical superintendent NEIGRIHMS were also present on the occasion. A one day workshop, organised by the Department of Hospital Administration on Wednesday was held in the surgical clinical teaching room and focused on the use of green and blue bins for general waste. Residents, staff and visitors participated in the workshop.

MPWU halts agitations after achieving demands
SHILLONG: Workers under the banner of the MeECL Progressive Workers Union (MPWU) have decided to temporarily suspend their agitation after the management informed them that they will fulfill a portion of their demands such as the implementation of Provident Fund, enhancement of wages, casual leave of 15 days, earned leave, maternity leave, payment of overtime and medical health insurance service. The union has also expressed its appreciation to the management for looking into the various demands and requests the management to issue official notifications regarding these commitments.

Conference on educational psychology held at NEHU
SHILLONG: The recently concluded international conference titled ‘Recent Advances in Educational Psychology’ held on March 15 and 16 by the Department of Education, NEHU Shillong, was sponsored by the North Eastern Council, Government of Meghalaya, ICSSR (NERC), and North Eastern Hill University. Chief Minister Conrad Sangma attended the events as the chief guest and stated that the new government has put education at the top of its priority list. The conference was attended by many academicians and scholars from the country as well as abroad.

Army recruitment rally
SHILLONG: An army recruitment rally for male candidates of all districts of Meghalaya for the post of soldier general duty, soldier tradesman, soldier clerks, soldier store keeper, soldier technical and soldier (nursing assistance) will be conducted from May 22 May 25 at Dikki Bandi Stadium in Tura. Online registration at www.joinindianarmy.nic.in shall remain open till May 7 and is mandatory for participation in the recruitment rally. VM Sharma, Deputy Director General (North East States) said that there has been a lot of demand from the people of Meghalaya to conduct a recruitment rally exclusively for the state. This is, therefore, a unique employment opportunity for the youth.

Clarification on copyright
SHILLONG: The Assistant Area Manager of Phonographic Performance Ltd., Shillong has clarified that that infringement of copyright, pertaining to copyrighted music, is viewed as an offence serious enough to be considered cognizable, non-bailable offences under the provisions of the Copyright Act 1957, attracting a fine of not less than Rs 50,000 which may extend to Rs 2 lakh and imprisonment of not less than six months which may extend to 3 years. The official also said that it is a duly registered and authorized body designated by the centre to issue licenses for the usage of copyrighted music and collection of fees for the same.

JNV Selection Test 2018
SHILLONG:  Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Mawsynram will be conducting selection tests for admission to Class VI, 2018-2019 sessions on April 21. Candidates who have registered online may collect the admit card from the nearby Common Service Centre in the District/ or from the office of the principal.  Candidates who have submitted offline applications may download the admit card from the NVS website or may collect the admit card from the office of the principal or nearest Common Service Centre. Discrepancies in the admit card may be resolved by contacting the principal and by providing a copy of the certificate submitted for online registration along with a print out of the filled in application which was collected after registration.

DSEO organises science exhibition at Williamnagar
WILLIAMNAGAR: A one-day district level science, mathematics and environmental exhibition organised by the office of the District School Education Officer, East Garo Hills was held at DRDA Hall No.1 at Williamnagar on April 11 in which a total of 9 different schools participated.
As part of the day-long program, quiz and extempore speech competitions were also held. During the inaugural function, District School Education Officer, Illa G. Momin, delivered the welcome address and informed that the winning school will be eligible to participate in the State Science Exhibition to be held in Shillong.
