Central agri varsity project on course: Conrad

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma informed the project of establishing the Central Agriculture University (CAU) was on and the central government had released funds close to Rs 30 crores.

The Chief Minister stepped in after the Agriculture Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh was subjected to intense questioning over the CAU by Independent MLA, SK Sunn and Congress MLA, Ampareen Lyngdoh during Question Hour in the Assembly on Tuesday.

Sangma said, “30 per cent of the works have been completed, land acquisition is done, classes have started in the temporary camp in Umiam. Definitely, we will look into the matter.”

In the circulated reply, Banteidor affirmed the query of Sunn who said that in 2010, the government of India, Ministry of Agriculture constituted a committee comprising of officials for selection of site for establishment of CAU in the state and that the committee in its final recommendation had selected the site located between Umsning and Zero Point Road as an ideal one.
