SHILLONG: There was a delay in holding the Meghalaya Civil Services (MCS) examinations for the last eight years which had evoked criticism from several quarters.
However, MPSC said that the delay in the advertisement of Meghalaya Civil Services (MCS) was for providing fair chances to people appointed under contractual basis and ad hoc appointees in the state and the central governments besides those who work in Government Corporation.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, W.A.M. Booth, Secretary, MPSC said, “People who have been appointed under 3F, contractual basis and ad hoc appointees in the state and central government, Government Corporation have applied whether they are counted as government servants. The MPSC has referred this matter to the state government for advice.”
Earlier, there was no age relaxation for government servants who are over age. Later, age relaxation was given to government servants if they enter government service within the prescribed age limit, Booth said.
She said an addendum was issued on July 24, 2017 after the receipt of clarification on MCS recruitment regarding the rejection of applications for persons who are already in government service. In this connection, the Commission had decided to allow another 15 days time (up to January 18, 2018) for the receipt of applications through proper channel from persons who are already in government service provided they entered Government Service within the prescribed age limit.
“Meanwhile, all the necessary works are complete. MPSC desires to hold the preliminary examinations in July 2018 but it will depend on the state government’s decision,” she said.
Once the clarification is received from the state government, the preliminary examinations will be held in which a 30-day notice will be given to the aspiring candidates preparing for the preliminary examinations.
