Ex-CM asked to vacate over Rs 10-crore official residence

SHILLONG: The state government has issued orders to former chief minister Mukul Sangma, former ministers and MLAs to vacate government bungalows which they have been occupying for long. Mukul was allotted Sherwood bungalow near Shillong Municipal Board that was earlier occupied by former chief minister DD Lapang. The official residence of the chief minister at Oakland which Mukul has been occupying for several years was constructed at a cost of over Rs 10 crore. A government source said notices were issued to vacate 10- 12 official residences after the formation of the new government and some of the former MLAs have already vacated the houses. As per rule, two months’ time is given for vacating the official bungalows. Chief Minister Conrad Sangma is yet to occupy any official bungalow. He stays in his residence in Upper Shillong and comes to the Secretariat from there.
