TURA: A eleven-year-old boy died after being struck by lightning during a sudden thunderstorm in Rajabala area of the plain belt region under West Garo Hills district on Sunday evening.

According to police sources, the 11-year-old boy Bapparaj Sk was killed on the spot when lightning struck him outside his home at Pataranga village of Rajabala at around 4:35 PM.

The freak weather accompanied by gusty winds affected several parts of the western region moving eastwards before hitting the Tura peak range and losing strength.

Though the strong winds disrupted power it spared Tura of any major thunderstorm.

While the pre-monsoon showers are a common feature in the region, yet Garo Hills has been witnessing unprecedented rainfall in the last couple of weeks, a sign of climatic changes taking place.
