SHILLONG: Another target date has been announced by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for the delayed Umsning bypass, which is likely to be completed by the beginning of June. The work on the bypass, which is nearing comple tion, has been affected due to turbulent weather as the entire region is witnessing heavy rain, an NHAI official said.“Since the work has been affected, it may be completed in the first week of June,” the official said. After the work is complete, a safety auditing will be conducted on the road after which it will be opened for traffic. Officials said the work was delayed due to change of scope under which a bridge and vehicular underpass were added as the component of the project. Once the Umsning bypass is completed, the time taken for travelling between Guwahati and Shillong will further reduce.
