RIST students provide computer training to school kids

GUWAHATI: The students of the Regional Institute of Science & Technology (RIST) have provided training on the basic computer and application of the MS Office software to school students from Baridua area in Meghalaya as part of celebration of National Technology Day-2018 at Techno City campus here.

The National Technology Day-2018 was celebrated with a day-long programme by the department of Computer Science and Engineering of the RIST on Saturday with the theme ‘Science & Technology for Sustainable Future’.

School students of Baridua area of Meghalaya had been invited to the programme & given and were imparted training on the basic computers and MS offices by the students of RIST.

The program was inaugurated with a welcoming speech given by Jainul Abudin Registrar, RIST.  Dr. Amit Choudhury, Dean University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) and Dr Ajmal Barbhuiya, Academic Registrar, USTM were felicitated on the occasion.

Delivering the key note address, Dr Choudhury explained about the pros & cons of technology & how technology had changed the global scenario within few decades. He had attracted the students by giving some examples from old days comparing with the modern day scenario where technology has become a major component for imparting education especially technical education.

Dr Barbhuiya had explained why oxygen was important and asked to the students to name any technology that provides Oxygen. The Answer was ‘tree & tree only’. A wall magazine of department with information on various new technologies, computer languages & technology tools was also inaugurated for the year 2018-2019.

A computer gaming competition was conducted along with the computer literacy workshop as part of the programme. The event came to an end with key-note from Dr U K Sarma, Executive Director RIST, along with distribution of certificates and prizes for the workshop and gamming competition respectively. The first prize was awarded to Suryodaya U P School and the Second prize to Lillte Star School of 9th Mile, Khanapara.
