WJH witnesses rise in crime against children

SHILLONG: West Jaintia Hills (WJH) is witnessing a perceptible rise in crime against children and this year seventeen cases under POCSO Act have been registered till date

 

West Jaintia Hills SP, Vivek Syiem said that three cases had been charge-sheeted while 14 cases were being investigated and only 13 persons have been arrested so far in 2018 itself for sexual offences against children.

 

Syiem informed that on Monday that an FIR was received ton Sunday night that complained that one 12-year-old minor boy was abducted and sexually assaulted by one person. In this regard a case under POCSO Act was registered and on investigation one Sanki Ksoo was identified and arrested on Monday and he has been remanded to Judicial custody.

 

Similarly, on the same day another case was reported from Khliehtyrshi, Moopyllaitsyiar where a 15-year-old girl had been sexually assaulted by Deibor Talang since 2014.

 

“In this regard, a case under POCSO Act is registered and investigation is on. The accused person, however, has absconded and efforts are being made to track and arrest him, “the SP added.

 

In view of the perceptible increase in crime against children, the general public are informed that to enable police to expeditiously act on such cases where physical evidence is crucial and accused do not have the opportunity to abscond and evade arrest, they can call their nearest Police Station or contact Police Control Room Jowai at the following Nos. 03652-220782 and 9774065467 (including Whatsapp) for early action.
