SHILLONG: The Mawhati Zonal committee of People’s Democratic Front (PDF) dissolved the party unit in Mawhati in a unanimous decision taken by the president of zonal committee, James Sylliang and leaders of the party on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Sylliang said he was likely to tender his resignation on Wednesday or Thursday and would also withdraw his support to the ruling People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) coalition-led by PDF.

“We would not like to talk about being dropped as an Executive Member (EM) but it is about the suspension for one year.”

He added the leaders of zonal committee found that he spoke nothing against the party. “It is understandable that it is a one-man show. How do I stay in such a party?” he said.

According to Sylliang, many leaders in the zonal committee felt it was pointless to stay in the party and asserted that the suspension for one year was uncalled for as he was also preparing for the Council elections in 2019.

Terming the PDF as Pynshngain Dictatorship Front as none of the Executive Members (EMs) were aware of the use of Rs 28 crore for Council assets, he further said president of PDF, Ivanlumlang Marbaniang was only a puppet and not the decision of the president to suspend him.

As for joining other parties, he said it was up to the leaders to decide the crucial matter.

Waiting for the session

As for the signature campaign demanding clarification on the misappropriation of Rs 28 crore, Sylliang claimed that many of the MDCs were waiting for the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) session.
