SHILLONG: Cabinet Minister Prestone Tynsong is confident that the candidate of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) will win the Ampati seat.
“We are winning. All the 12 Cabinet ministers whenever they are free will go to Ampati to campaign for the NPP candidate,” Tynsong said and added that Clement G Momin would be the next Ampati MLA.
Home Minister James Sangma recently campaigned for Momin, who is fielded by NPP and supported by MDA allies, while Chief Minister Conrad Sangma is likely to visit Ampati in a day or two.
The by-poll is witnessing a triangular fight between Congress’s Miani D Shira, NPP’s Clement G Momin and Subhankar Koch, who is an independent candidate.
The by-poll was necessitated following the decision of Leader of the Opposition Mukul Sangma to retain Songsak after he contested the elections from both seats and won both the seats comprehensively.
